Ireland Aptitude Test for Nurses

Introduction

RCSI Aptitude test consists of both theory and practice examination which is divided into two parts part 1 and 2

Part 1

The theory test consisting of 150 MCQ questions and requires 50% correct answers to pass. Candidates are required to answer over a three-hour period. Each question will have four possible options and you are required to give only ONE answer to each question. A minimum pass mark of 50% is mandatory for Theory Test. theory test is conducted on Day one ,you have to get pass to get eligible for attending the practical test conducted on the next day

Part 2

The OSCE test consisting of 14 stations or scenarios, which you have to pass to obtain NMBI registration. Each station assesses different competencies pertaining to nursing .RCSI does not give name for any of the stations two or more tasks were given in each station. The duration of each station is 10 min and additional 3 min is given for reading. The student need to answer questions from the examiner usually examiner will ask a number of questions related to the topic. Two examiners will be present in each station both of them will be assessing the candidates if needed one of the examiner will take the role of the simulated patient

  • Assessment and management of Angina

  • MUST tool calculation
  • Student teaching for stroke , MRI , IV sedation
  • Chest infection station ( Oxygen administration , Nebulisation , Use of MDA medication , spirometry )
  • Health education for cough etiquette
  • Vital signs
  • Hand hygiene
  • Hands on training with charts

  • The program will be Face to face discussion and hands on training in the simulation lab
  • Training will be given for all scenarios / skill stations stations
  • Every day practice and structured practical examination
  • Real time experience and instant feedback
  • The training duration will be five days
  • Communication support will be provided
  • Students will be taken in small groups in order to get maximum support
